Police responded to the intersection of Plain Street and West Street in Stoughton around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24, to find a three-car crash and one person suffering from a gunshot wound, according to Stoughton Deputy Chief Brain Homes in a press conference.
Initial investigations have revealed that some of the involved parties got into an argument at a 7/11 convenience store in Canton, and then drove away from the store into Stoughton in a black sedan and a white SUV.
The two vehicles became involved in a road rage incident, which involved "erratic" driving, and which culminated in a gun being fired at one of the vehicles.
The gunfire caused a car crash, in which a third vehicle, a pickup truck, was also involved.
Police believe the pickup truck to be unrelated to the initial argument in Canton, and was simply caught in the crash.
All people involved, including the gunshot victim, received non-life-threatening injuries in the crash, and everyone who was hospitalized has been discharged, police say. Stoughton Police confirmed to Daily Voice.
All participants in the incident have been identified.
The involved parties are not believed to have previously known each other and have no ties to the community.
Police report that no one is in custody and that the situation is under investigation.
The area was treated as an active crime scene, and the intersection was closed to traffic until around 6 a.m. the following morning, according to the Stoughton Police Department's Facebook page.
Police ask that anyone who may have video of the incident pass footage along to the police.
